cd 'Whirl Wheels' en agosto del 1996 nos dio a
conocer a grupos como The Cat's Miaow, los
fantásticos The Crooner, mi canción preferida,
"Candy" de They Go Boom, o la joven banda
Club 8. Cuando pronuncias el nombre de Shelflife
el estómago se parte en dos. 5 años llenos de
grandes alegrias, alegrias que seguirán llegando

I started Shelflife Records in a small Southern California town in 1995 with my good
friends Yuri, Laura and Brent. We released the "Whirl-Wheels" compilation cd to
showcase our favorite up-and-coming international groups. During this time, I also
started a pop mail order to help provide an outlet for my favorite international bands
to sell their releases in the states. In 1997, Shelflife and I moved to New York City.

There, I met Jill and she began to help with Shelflife. We decided to give up the
mailorder to devote more time to the growing roster of Shelflife releases. With this
new arrangement the label began to release records on a more regular time schedule.
We kept growing a little every year. In 1999, we declared Shelflife a legal business,
as it had become more than just a weekend hobby.

Jill and her company, "jillbliss.com", focus on the design and art direction for Shelflife,
while I handle all of the business and operations of the label. We both have full-time
day jobs and devote a good deal of our evenings and weekends running Shelflife.
Like most small-business owners, we both work very hard to run the label and
re-invest all of the money Shelflife makes into releasing and promoting more great
music!

Besides releasing records, we also put on a festival each year called "September Set"
to showcase some of the Shelflife bands as well as other favorite pop bands that may
be in town that month. We hope to continue having this festival every year to support
and encourage the indiepop scene.

In the future, we hope to just keep doing what we're doing: to have the time and
money to keep releasing great pop music. We have no aspirations to rule the world
or anything like that. We just want to release music by bands we like and to make our
pop fans happy. With releases from Acid House Kings, The Arrogants, The Autocollants,
Brideshead, Brittle Stars, Call and Response, The Castaway Stones, Le Coupe,
Laura Watling, Majestic, The Maybellines, Moving Pictures, River, The Shermans,
Skypark, Souvenir, Sushi, Sweet William and many other bands on the way, Shelflife
hopes to provide top quality pop for years to come.

Voilà! Shelflife te trae este exquisito primer cdep del trio español Souvenir, realizado
por Patricia (cantante) J'aime (guitarra, teclados y programación) y Pablo (bajo).
Seis deliciosas canciones de pop cantado en francés para recordarnos que el espíritu
de Françoise Hardy, France Gall, Jane Birkin e incluso de Sylvie Vartan o Brigitte Bardot
sigue vivo de diferentes maneras, que tiene más sentido que nunca y que reluce con
los colores y el brillo de la primavera de 1969. Una delicia para fans de: Le Mans,

Moving Pictures| "Joie de Vivre" Cdep

"Joie de Vivre" ,ep coproducido por Shelflife y el brillante sello japonés Harmony,
es el debut en los Estados Unidos del grupo español Moving Pictures. Con
influencias bossa pop de Bridge, France Gall, Cardigans, Françoise Hardy,
Shoestrings, Laura Watling, Would-Be-Goods y otros, Moving Pictures es uno de
los primeros grupos bossa/pop españoles que combinan sonidos jazzy con dulces,
tiernas e infantiles voces femeninas.
"Joie de Vivre" a participado en Siesta Records ("Without Friends" cd y en el
7" "Hummingbird") y con Goodbye Records ("My Brightest Star" 7").

Moving Pictures actuará en septiembre en Boston, Philadelphia y Nueva York
como parte del festival September Set. Si tienes la suerte de estar por allí,

Sushi graba su disco de debut para Shelflife, su título "The Quiet Soace Between
Houses". Once temas de pop internacional lleno de preciosos sonidos orchestales,
guitarras jazzys, un calido organo hammond y estupendas baterías arropan la
maravillosa voz de su cantante Nancy que nos trae recuerdos de Cinnamon (Frida) y
St. Etienne (Sarah Cracknell). Si eres un fan de la escena Neo-Acústica de Tokio este
disco estará en tu lista de los mejores discos del 2000.

The Maybellines son un cuarteto de Denever, Colorado y esta es su primera entrega
para Shelflife. Un Cdep con ocho temas de inmejorable pop, con dulces voces
chico/chica que te costará olvidar, pues cautiva desde su primera escucha.
En la suave voz de Julie encontraras un bonito parecido con Dominique Durand (Ivy)
y Laura Walting. Un disco brillante que encaja de maravilla con Autocollants y
Tiger Trap.
